No Cover Magazine is a music and action sports lifestyle publication. We focus on new and upcoming bands and athletes. It all started from an idea discussed over lunch in February 1997 with some friends at Chicago Pizza in West Los Angeles. By April of the same year we had a plan and layout of our 1st issue but no cover and no name for our publication. Our mission was to provide a lifestyle resource to cover the Los Angeles music, pop culture and club scene. Plus highlighting and give recognition to unsigned bands of all genres since all other publications at the time turned away unsigned music artists and only covered artists signed to major labels.

Our goal has always been to be distributed nationally. We had two names for the publication "Stomp" and "No Cover". We decided on "No Cover" for 3 reasons. The first was that, at the time, we were a FREE zine distributed all over Los Angeles and eventually 100,000 copies per month all over the west coast to music stores, coffee shops and lifestyle locations. Second "No Cover" represents original music. Third, the name "Stomp" sucked...

It is our dedication to indie music that lead to highlighting some of music's most talented by giving them their first-ever magazine cover. Artists such as:

  • Big Bad Voodoo Daddy (May 1997)
  • Ziggy Marley (August 1997)
  • Ben Harper (Sept. 1997)
  • Crystal Method (Dec. 1997)
  • Blink 182 (March 1998)
  • Eve6 (April 1998)
  • Reel Big Fish (November 1998)
  • Linkin Park (Oct. 2000)
  • Alien Ant Farm (March 2001)
  • Joe Firstman (May 2003)

In 2003 No Cover was selected to be the "Official" JagerMusic Tour Magazine in 2003 with Slayer headlining. We published our 1st nationally distributed magazine. 100,000 issues were distributed to over 42 tour stops across the US during the Slayer tour. We then started to receive a great response nationally and were eventually picked up by a local magazine distributor, then regional distributor and now we are distributed nationally and look forward to the day for worldwide distribution.

Other highlights... we also spun off No Cover Espanol and highlighted many indie Latin artists giving them their 1st magazine cover such as Manu Chao, Molotov, La Ley, Lucy Bell, Kinky. The magazine is written and edited in Spanish.
